South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir carried out a mini cabinet reshuffle. This is the first reshuffle since the national unity government was formed in February this year. In the reshuffle Deng Alor Kuol was made the minister in charge of the vacant East African affairs ministry. He replaces John Luk Jok, who died last month.

Mr Alor has served in various senior government positions since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). The peace process that kicked off ended the war with Sudan in 2005 before South Sudan seceded. Denay Jock Chagor was relieved from his position as minister of higher education, science and technology. He is now appointed as the governor for Jonglei State. His position as the minister was taken up by Gabriel Changson, a member of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).

The reshuffle was designed to bring about more cohesiveness and induct efficiency in the government, which has set a target, among other things, to make the country economically and politically stable.
