Following the announcement by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, of a 10% increase in excise duties on tobacco products in the 2025-2026 Budget, the sector’s main distributors have announced their new rates.
The new recommended retail prices (including VAT) will take effect from Friday, June 6, 2025. This measure is part of the government’s desire to strengthen the fight against smoking, while generating additional revenue to finance public spending, particularly in the area of health.
