Tanzania and Zimbabwe Strengthen Economic and Trade Ties, Eye Regional Free Trade Opportunities

(3 Minutes Read)

Tanzania and Zimbabwe have committed to enhancing their economic collaboration by focusing on sectors such as mining, agriculture, and maximizing the benefits of regional trade agreements like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the SADC Free Trade Area.

This commitment was announced following bilateral talks between Tanzania’s Vice President, Dr. Philip Mpango, and his Zimbabwean counterpart, Kembo Campbell Mohadi, during Mohadi’s two-day visit to Tanzania. During their meeting at the State House in Dar es Salaam on August 30, 2025, Dr. Mpango encouraged Zimbabwean businesses to import Tanzanian products, including food items like rice and industrial goods such as cement and galvanized iron.

The two nations reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic relations, which date back to 1980, and pledged to continue cooperation under the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC), which encompasses sectors such as defense, tourism, health, education, and culture.

Both countries emphasized maintaining the historic bond formed during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and agreed to uphold shared positions in international forums, including a joint stance against sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
