Moroccan handicraft exports surpassed 737 million dirhams by the end of July, reflecting a 14% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the State Secretariat for Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy.
July alone saw a strong performance, with exports rising 34% compared to July 2024. Among product categories, “Pottery & Stone” led with 33% of total export revenue and a 7% growth. “Carpets” and “Traditional Clothing” tied as the second-largest exports, each contributing 18%, with traditional clothing exports more than doubling year-over-year. “Basketry” and miscellaneous items each represented 8% of the total.
Export destinations saw notable shifts. Turkey experienced a dramatic rise, with exports increasing 53 times over last year, growing its share from 0.2% to 7%. The United States continued to dominate, absorbing 50% of Moroccan handicraft exports following a 32% rise, while Europe’s market share declined to 30%. France’s share dropped to 11% after a 26% decrease.

Marrakech remained the top export hub, accounting for 42% of exports with 13% growth. Casablanca followed with a 32% share, while Fez recorded a notable 47% increase, boosting its contribution to 16%. Tangier contributed 7% to overall exports.
