· AirLink has resumed limited services between Johannesburg and Cape Town on Level 3 of the lifting of coronavirus lockdown.

· AirLink had registered a 16% increase in passenger growth in 2019, as compared to the figures a year ago.

· Consistently, the airline has been clocking good results at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12% between 2016 and 2019.

· According to International Air Transporters Association (IATA), African airlines are forecast to make a total net loss of
US$2 billion in 2020.

AirLink has resumed limited services between Johannesburg and Cape Town on Level 3 of the lifting of coronavirus lockdown. It operated a
flight by deploying a 98-seat Embraer E190 regional jet recently. The airline is also offering flights on the Johannesburg-Durban route.

Airlines like Mango, FlySafair and Cemair are also resuming some domestic flights now after the relaxation of the lockdown. The official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape (Wesgro) said the resumed service will catalyze
business and cargo connections between two major urban centres in South Africa-Durban and Johannesburg.

Not all airlines are coming on board. Comair is currently in business rescue and has indicated that it would only consider resuming flights by about November if it is commercially viable. The company is trying to obtain the necessary funds. The State-owned regional airline -South African Airlines – is currently under provisional liquidation and its provisional liquidator, so far, has indicated that no resumption of flights.
