Safaricom Foundation’s vigilante against Covid-19

Safaricom Foundation in collaboration with Scope International has set up sanitation booths in six counties in Kenya to ensure that people have access to protective facilities.  These facilities have come up in counties like Homabay, Siaya, Migori, Kisii and  Bungoma. The company authorities feel that it would  help minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19 in a significant manner. Special care has been taken by the company authorities to set up sanitation kiosks at border counties of Kenya,  adjacent to Tanzania and Uganda. There are sanitation camps being set up near ferries and bus stations also. Over 60,000 people will use the sanitation booths daily across the six counties, entailing  a cost of Ksh 1.1 million. The project is aimed at promoting hygiene among vulnerable communities and to help reduce spread of pandemic.  The Foundation has been actively involved in efforts to help people cope with the COVID-19 pandemic  and donated personal protective equipment to health workers. Students are encouraged to go for e-learning to avoid physical contact.

The telecom company promoted foundation  has already donated Ksh200 Million through the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations towards providing cash transfers for food to support vulnerable communities. It has also donated  thermal cameras worth Ksh10 million to the Ministry of Health, which are  installed in various border entry points.
