The Namibian Presidency has clarified the government’s intentions regarding the revival of the national airline. This follows earlier discussions about re-establishing a national carrier, with the government highlighting its commitment to a sustainable and well-structured model. The statement affirmed that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is dedicated to reviving Namibia’s airline through strategic measures to avoid past errors.

To achieve this, the government plans to implement a public-private partnership (PPP) approach to ensure the airline operates on a solid business foundation. Key steps and timelines were outlined, including the completion of a comprehensive market study by June 2025 to evaluate the airline’s viability and market demand. The government will also finalize the expression of interest for the PPP, inviting private sector partners to engage in the project. Negotiations with these partners are set to conclude by December 2025, leading to formal agreements.

The new airline is anticipated to launch and commence operations between June and December 2026. The Presidency stressed that this airline will be built on a model aimed at sustainability, avoiding the financial issues that caused Air Namibia’s collapse in 2021. By combining private expertise with public oversight, the PPP model seeks to provide a viable future for Namibia’s aviation sector. The statement emphasized that the focus is on creating a new airline rather than reviving Air Namibia, ensuring a more strategically sound and financially sustainable operation that meets the needs of Namibia’s expanding air travel market.
