According to a Ugandan betting company the gambling sector in East
Africa is in a roll following the coronavirus pandemic. Reports
coming from elsewhere in the world indicate that betting is going as
usual since people do not have many things to do in the difficult days
of pandemic. They spend more time in betting and speculation. However,
such gambling is done these days mostly online.
In Uganda and other East African countries, online gambling is not
popular unlike in the West. Hardly 1% does online betting. There are
other reasons also for the dip in betting. Africans mostly bet on the
outcome of sporting events and football is the top game that evinces
interest of gamblers since it is a popular game and the capabilities
of each team are known to the common man in the region. Cancellation
of most of the sports events, particularly football matches have put a
lid on to the gambling opportunities..
