Egypt is one of the world’s leading exporters of agricultural products, including fresh fruits, vegetables, cotton, and rice. Egypt’s agricultural exports from January -2024 till October exceeded to 6.9 million tons. This has been valued at around USD 4.04 billion, representing an increase of USD 980 million and over 574,000 tons compared to the same period last year. Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation stated this in ‘Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine’, detailing the country’s agricultural export performance.
This remarkable achievement occurred despite global and regional challenges affecting supply chains. Notably, the Egyptian government temporarily halted the export of certain agricultural products to bolster the local market.
Key exports included citrus fruits, which topped the list with 2,274,295 tons, followed by fresh potatoes at 973,130 tons, and onions in third place with 281,785 tons exported. Other notable products included fresh and dried beans (225,035 tons), grapes (179,993 tons), and mangoes (103,003 tons). Additional exports included pomegranates (60,624 tons), tomatoes (37,146 tons), garlic (24,237 tons), strawberries (21,295 tons), and guavas, which ranked last with 12,720 tons exported.

The Minister emphasized that this breakthrough in exports was made possible by successfully opening 95 markets over the past decade. Egypt now exports more than 400 agricultural commodities to 160 countries. These exports primarily consist of surplus goods beyond the local market’s needs. Notably, the country holds a competitive advantage in products like citrus fruits, strawberries, and potatoes. These include major destinations such as Europe, the Americas, China, Japan, and countries across the Arab and African regions.
With over 350 agricultural goods in its export portfolio, Egypt’s agricultural sector remains a crucial driver of the nation’s economic growth.
