 The powerful Catholic church is supporting the move, which has declared a peaceful demonstration against illegal mining on Friday. The country’s labour unions will also participate in the movement against illegal mining.

Thousands of demonstrators in Ghana’s capital, Accra called for an end to illegal mining. Demonstrators said they would continue to pressure the government until it addressed the issue. The damaging effect of illegal mining is well known in Ghana and the environmental degradation it caused.

Demonstrators feel that illegal mining should stop in Ghana and urge the government to take strong steps. The protest took place from Thursday to Saturday. Unlike a previous demonstration in September organised by the pressure group Democracy Hub, the police did not interfere with the protest.
