200 Migrants Crossed Mediterranean Sea Saved

(3 Minutes Read)

Hundreds of thousands of people attempt to reach Europe from North Africa by crossing the Mediterranean Sea every year. The UN’s International Organization for Migration’s Missing Migrants Project found that 3,041 people were dead or went missing in the Mediterranean last year.

NGO Doctors Without Borders, a voluntary organization committed to saving the lives of migrants crossing seas, particularly the Mediterranean Sea rescued nearly 200 migrants in five operations.

Migrants spent four days stranded at sea after the fiberglass boat they were on suffered engine failure. Some people in distress had to be plucked from the water. A total of 191 migrants were brought to safety on board the NGO ship, Geo Barents, which is now sailing towards the Italian port of Salerno.
