The Tanzanian Revenue Authority (TRA) exceeded its revenue collection target of 2.25tri/- by collecting 2.34tri/- in the July 2024/2025 financial year – a performance rate of 104.4 per cent. The performance in collections and the growth of collections rate for July is stated to be the highest achieved by the TRA in the past six years.
The Tanzanian Revenue Authority (TRA) exceeded its revenue collection target of 2.25tri/- by collecting 2.34tri/- in the July 2024/2025 financial year – a performance rate of 104.4 per cent. The performance in collections and the growth of collections rate for July is stated to be the highest achieved by the TRA in the past six years.
According to the TRA report provided by the Director of Taxpayer Services and Education, the collections represent a 20.9 per cent increase compared to the 1.94 tri/- collected in July for 2023/24 financial year. The performance achieved by the Tanzania Revenue Authority for July is a positive indicator to ensuring that the collection target of 30.4 tri/- for this financial year 2024/25 is attained, said the director.
The authority has attributed the success to the improved relationship between the taxman and taxpayers through communication and dialogues. TRA officials have been engaged in discussions with taxpayers on best practices and strategies to pay tax. The close monitoring and supervision are among the major factors behind the achievement. TRA has been providing training to its staff on how to approach taxpayers and ensure the demonstrate professionalism in their daily activities. It is also attributed the achievement to the proper use of E-Fiscal Devices (EFD) machines and the use of Excise Tax Stamps (ETS).
TRA is committed to building and improving the domestic and customs tax systems, IDRAS, and TANCIS which interact with other systems. The main goal is to manage and strengthen the foundations of a sound tax system, ensuring fairness and equity in tax collection without favouritism or victimisation.

According to the TRA report, the authority collected 1.94tri/- in the 2023/24 financial year, achieving 90.5 per cent of its target of 2.14tri/-. In the 2022/23 financial year, the taxman collected 1.76tri/-, reaching 93.1 of the targets of 1.90tri/. The collection represented 14.9per cent increase compared to the 2021/22 financial year.
In the 2021/22 financial year, TRA collected 1.54tri/-, achieving 97.4 per cent of its target of 1.58tri/- target, marking a 19.2 per cent growth compared to the 2020/21 fiscal year.
