Luísa Diogo, who served as minister of finance and later as prime minister in the governments led by presidents Joaquim Chissano and Armando Guebuza, will remain an independent non-executive director of Absa Group in South Africa, a position she has held since September 2023.

Former deputy governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Victor Gomes, is the new chairman of the board of directors of Absa Bank. He succeeded Luísa Diogo, who retired after his 13-year leadership at the banking institution.

Victor Gomes was deputy governor of the central bank, the regulator of the Mozambican financial system, between 2017 and 2022. Before that, between 2014 and 2017, he was chairman of Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM).
