Lesotho President resigns: Gives old age as reason, but many not buying

·        The Prime Minister of Lesotho Thomas Thabane announced his
resignation in a televised speech in the capital, Maseru

·        The Prime Minister’s former wife  58-year old Lilopelo
Thabane, was murdered in June 2017 by unknown assailants. Later, he
married Lesotho’s current first lady, Maesaiah Thabane. The President
and the first lady, who is now 48  are facing murder charges

The Prime Minister of Lesotho Thomas Thabane announced his resignation
in a televised speech in the capital, Maseru.  The octogenarian said
the decision was the hardest he had  made in his career. Old age and
indifferent health were pointed out as the reasons for the unexpected
retirement. He  told the citizens not to fall prey to the rumor
mongering of  the vested interests about the reasons for his
retirement.

There’s speculation that his resignation follows mounting pressure
over his former and late wife, Thabane. The Prime Minister’s former
wife  58-year old Lilopelo Thabane, was murdered in June 2017 by
unknown assailants. Later, he married Lesotho’s current first lady,
Maesaiah Thabane. The President and the first lady, who is now 48  are
facing murder charges.
