He worked as a manager in the public and private sectors, most notably as Executive Director of CTA, managing processes to improve the Business Environment, and as National Director of Forestry and Wildlife at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, particularly involved in reforestation and environmental conservation activities.
Sérgio Chitará has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of FNB Moçambique for a four-year term. He will succeed South African John Macaskill. With a long professional experience, Sérgio Chitará has spent the last 20 years managing private entities. Among them included Vale Moçambique and the USAID project – Speed+.
Sérgio Chitará was the Sustainability Manager and Country Manager for Vale Mozambique (a Brazilian multinational mining company) and the companies in the Nacala Logistics Corridor, including Malawi, and was responsible for leading the transfer of Vale assets in Mozambique and Malawi to the new shareholder Vulcan Resources, a subsidiary of the Indian company Jindal.
