The Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has announced its plans to sell off it’s manufacturing facility in Casablanca as part of restructuring its business strategy. The Company proposes to focus on assembly and research and development. Minister for industry and investment Moulay Hafid Elalamy has assured that another aircraft manufacturer will take over the plant without creating job losses. He added that aerospace giants like Airbus, British JKN and Spirit have shown interest in the deal.
Morocco has identified aeronautical and automotive industries among the focus sectors for driving economic growth. Morocco’s aeronautical industry has projected a growth of 20% in the next five years with promising prospects for exports. In 2018, it recorded exports of $1.43 billion and generated 16,700 jobs. Boeing and Airbus have also significant presence in Morocco. Almost the entire production of Boeing cables are manufactured in Morocco with production plants setup by 140 suppliers.
