Nigeria to Take Stern Action Against Spurious Products

The agency, NAFDAC recently destroyed fake products varying from drinks, packaged foods, drugs, and toiletries worth about USD 750, 000 by intercepting counterfeiters involved in the production of a variety of fake beverages.

Many Nigerians demand a national investigation be launched into the rise in counterfeit goods in the market by relevant agencies including the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC). The proliferation of fake products is spreading in the country even in the food sector, which can have severe health ramifications.

The agency, NAFDAC recently destroyed fake products varying from drinks, packaged foods, drugs, and toiletries worth about USD 750, 000 by intercepting counterfeiters involved in the production of a variety of fake beverages. Products such as wines, soft drinks, etc are faked and sold in the market. An estimate claims that at least 40 fake consumer products mimicking popular brands have been found so far.
