Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi urged the international community to recognize the State of Palestine as a reality, He added that the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was an idea on its last legs, alluding that the international community would have to accept the reality.

This, the Egyptian President, said while receiving the Spanish and Belgian prime ministers in Cairo. While addressing a joint press conference along with them, he underscored the need for permanent peace in Gaza.  For that, a different approach has to be adopted. He stressed the need for recognition of the State of Palestine by the international community and its integration into the United Nations.   Sissi’s statement came a few hours after a truce between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip was hammered.

The truce, negotiated with the help of Qatar, the United States, and Egypt, is to be accompanied by the release in the afternoon of a dozen hostages held in the Gaza Strip.  Twelve Thai hostages, who were not included in the exchange agreement, were also released by Hamas on Friday.
