This initiative includes the promotion of all research and pilot projects for the development of green hydrogen. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Algeria plans to invest between $20 billion and $25 billion in green hydrogen by 2040 in three main phases: start-up through pilot projects (2023 to 2030), expansion and market creation (2030 to 2040) and industrialization and market competitiveness (2040 to 2050). By 2040, Algeria plans to produce and export 30-40 TWh of gaseous and liquid hydrogen, with a mix of blue hydrogen, produced from gas, and green hydrogen produced by electrolysis using the country’s vast solar resources, with the goal of supplying Europe with 10% of its green hydrogen needs by 2040.
