The first Africa Healthcare Federation Summit aimed to promote PPP (Public private partnership) in the health sector in Africa kicked off in Addis Ababa on October 8th under the theme “Integrating Africa: Bridging the Health Gap”. More than 350 delegates from Africa and international have confirmed their participation organizations in the three-day summit.
Addressing the summit, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Health, Lia Tadesse, said PPPs are key to bridging the health gap and to successfully fight noncommunicable diseases and achieve Universal health coverage .
Africa Healthcare Federation President Dr. Amit N. Thakker in his opening address, said the summit will enhance public private partnership by sharing success stories, challenges and experiences from other African countries and international organizations. The goals of the Summit include promoting investment of private sectors in areas Africa’s health sectors as well as create a networking platform to facilitate partnership and collaborations between private and public sectors with fellow African countries and international organizations. It also proposes to seek government commitment from respective ministries .

Africa Healthcare Federation is a collaboration of five African regional healthcare federations. The mandate of the Federation is advocate, mentor, collaborate and unify the private health sector of Africa to facilitate the scaling up and strengthening of health systems by attracting investments to provide affordable, accessible and quality healthcare delivery across the continent.
