Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was on a three-day state visit to Russia meant to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Tebboune attended an economic forum held this week in the city of St. Petersburg.

The Algerian President recently said that Russia was a friendly country that helped the Algerian revolution.  The Northern African country has historic political, diplomatic, and economic relations. At the same, he revealed that it has good relations with the United States and the countries of the European Union.

With drastically less capacity, Algeria is increasingly eyed by European countries looking to reduce their reliance on Russian energy amid the war in Ukraine. Algeria has replaced Russia as Italy’s largest energy supplier.
