A Nairobi-based green transport company unveiled a new charging station to provide facilities for electric motorbikes to charge conveniently and at lesser cost. The station is aimed at “boda-boda” riders, a pppular ride in the country and the mainstay of the motorcycle taxi industry.
Riders can have their batteries charged to 80% in less than an hour for an affordable fee, which works out to be economical for the country. The rider will have to come with the battery for charging. The charging station will be able to charge the battery from 20 to 80% in less than an hour at a very affordable fee. The scheme known as Roam Hub initiative has been mooted to decarbonize Kenya’s transport sector and is finding acceptance among the boda-boda riders.
Kenya is determined to promote e-mobility in the country, especially among the multitudes of boda-boda riders. This will make taxi owners earn more and at the same time reduce their carbon footprint.
