An MoU between Benya, Khazna Data Centers, and Maadi Technology Park was signed to establish a high-density data center with a capacity of 25 megawatts incurring a cost of US$250 million. The centre will span over 40,000 sq meters.

The Mou was signed in the presence of Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Hossam Heiba and UAE Ambassador to Cairo Mariam al-Kaaby. Eminent people connected with the ICT sector from both countries attended the meeting. Egypt, of late, is emerging as an important ICT hub because of its logistical advantage. Many global IT giants are setting up their offices in Egypt because of its proximity to Europe and the Middle East and its language advantage.

Both GAFI and UAE have been holding parleys for setting up the data centre since February this year. The proposed Data centre is one among the several steps being undertaken by Egypt for boosting its ICT sector.
