Sunak holds discussions with Rwandan President: Reviews progress of migrant issues

Rwandan President Paul Kagame met UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London recently ahead of the coronation of King Charles III and held one-to-one discussions.  The British PM is holding parleys with world leaders who are arriving in London to take part in the royal ceremony.

The UK has agreed to a multimillion-pound partnership with Rwanda designed to tackle the number of small boats of illegal migrants coming to Britain through a deal worth £140 million. The UK will now send to Rwanda anyone who enters the country unlawfully.

This model, Sunak said, was the way forward for addressing the global migration issue. He also praised the role of the Rwandan president as chair-in-office of the Commonwealth over the past year. The plan to send migrants to the East African nation was ruled lawful by High Court judges.  But so far, no flight has been taken off with migrants since it has been stalled by legal action.
