Thousands of refugees are fleeing Sudan and crossing over to the neighboring Chad Republic. The World Food Programme (WFP) said that huge relief measures are needed to support the refugees, whose numbers are increasing every day.

According to UN estimates, over 20,000 people have crossed from Sudan into Chad since fighting erupted.  Relief measures such as the distribution of food and aid packages were undertaken for refugees arriving at the border at Adre. Two warring groups are engaged in fighting in Sudan for capturing power, which is continuing despite the international community’s effort to call for a cease-fire.

It is expected that the fight will pitch up once the foreign nationals are evacuated from Sudan. The fighting, which has now completed two weeks, has turned the capital Khartoum into a war zone. African and Arab nations, the UN, and the United States are intensifying their pressure on the rival generals to enter talks on resolving the crisis.
