The Ministry of Mines and Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QatarEnergy. This is to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector. The agreement was signed by Namibian Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo and the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Qutar, and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy HE Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi .

The MoU paves the way for continued cooperation and covers key areas such as knowledge sharing, workforce development, and exploring further investment opportunities in Namibia. This agreement further strengthens our relationship as we work jointly towards a prosperous future, stated Al Kaabi.
This comes as the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor), through its subsidiary NAMCOR Exploration and Production, entered into an agreement with QatarEnergy in May last year to support and develop a sustainable upstream oil and gas sector in Namibia. QatarEnergy recently announced a light oil discovery in the Jonker-1X well in the Orange Basin, offshore southern Namibia, adding to the previous two separate oil and associated gas discoveries in the same basin in 2022.
