Paul Kagame elected as leader of party: May get another 5 years as president

Rwanda President Paul Kagame has got re-elected as the chairman of the ruling party- Rwandese Patriotic Front- a party he led for the last 22 years since its inception in 1998.  His election was almost unanimous, having bagged 99.8 % of the votes cast. The election took place at the party’s 16th congress held recently 

Rwanda President Paul Kagame has got re-elected as the chairman of the ruling party- Rwandese Patriotic Front- a party he led for the last 22 years since its inception in 1998.  His election was almost unanimous, having bagged 99.8 % of the votes cast. The election took place at the party’s 16th congress held recently.

Kagame has been Rwanda’s president for 22 years. He will now serve another five years as head of the Rwandan Patriotic Front.

The 2,000 supporters present at the congress in Kigali voted recently on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the ruling party since the end of the genocide.
