The government of Senegal agreed to share 50 megawatts of electric power with Gambia to stabilise power supply in the country, stated Abdoulie Jobe, the minister of Petroleum and Energy, Gambia
National Water And Electricity Co.Ltd (NAWEC) formalised this agreement with Senelec, the national electricity company of Senegal. The power is shared at a competitive rate and is anticipated to stabilise the power supply in the country.

The minister said the deal was part of ECOWAS Electricity Generation and Transmission Master Plan agreement which was approved by heads of state in December 2019. The agreement’s objective was to form one electricity system in the west African region, encourage interstate electricity exchanges, and give appropriate support to national regulatory bodies or entities of the Member States.
He further stated that the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Access Project, which has a radius of about 100KM from the substation in Brikama and Soma, will provide over 300 communities with electricity.
