After phasing out its bilateral development programme in Rwanda by 2022,Netherlands will turn its focus to developing public private partnerships in various sectors according tothe Dutch Ambassador to Rwanda, Frédérique de Man.Over the past few months, Netherlands has been exploring opportunities for co-operation in setting up a Rwanda Innovative Finance Facility for Water (RIFFWA).The initiative will assist in identifying bankable projects in the water sector using select Dutch finance instruments to have public-private partnerships in various sectors. The Netherlands’s support has been spread across various sectors of Rwanda including integrated water resource management, landscape restoration, agriculture and horticulture, judicial and civil society etc. Dutch companies have also established their presence in Rwanda in a variety of sectors including food industry, transport, renewable energy construction, and ICT.
Speaking about the growing bilateral ties between Rwanda and Netherlands, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation, Urujeni Bakuramutsa, said “After 25 years of cooperation, it is important to note that trade and investment have steadily grown between our two countries, promoting trade and investment is the most efficient way to create sustainable economic growth and ultimately improve livelihoods,” News Desk April 29, 2019
