Cape Town hosted its first-ever Spring Festival temple fair. The event celebrated the Chinese Lantern Festival which takes place on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
Cape Town hosted its first-ever Spring Festival temple fair. The event celebrated the Chinese Lantern Festival which takes place on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Nearly 3,000 local residents visited the fair, enjoying lantern shows and eating traditional yuanxiao – glutinous rice balls.
Lion and dragon dances and martial art performances, further immersed the public into the traditional Chinese rituals and customs. The Lantern festival marks the conclusion of the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year holiday celebrations.

It may be recalled that South Africa did not impose any ban on Chinese tourists visiting their country, while a few other African countries-imposed conditions on the entry of Chinese tourists or people who visited China into their countries, with a higher incidence of Covid-19 cases. China has recently declared the country Covid free, although it was widely reported that there are cases in isolated pockets of the country.
