Tom Alweendo, the Minister of Mines and Energy, will lead a Namibian delegation to 2023 Invest in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa. The event, which takes place from February 6th to 9th, is a premier gathering of industry leaders, investors, and government representatives to discuss the future of Africa’s mining sector.
Mining Indaba is the largest mining investment event in Africa. With a proven track record of bringing together ministers, senior Government representatives, mining companies, mid and junior miners, investors, professional services as well as mining equipment and service providers, Mining Indaba is the place to meet everybody who’s anybody in the African and global mining industry.
Namibia is participating under the theme – Namibia: Securing Investments in Sustainable Mining Supply Chains – reflecting the country’s transition from extractive mining to creating opportunities for enhanced economic activities throughout the supply chain. The delegation, which includes representatives from the public and private sectors, such as the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, Epangelo Mining Company, BW Energy, OSINO Resources, Andrada, and the Chamber of Mines, will make a case for Namibia’s mining sector to a global audience and reinforce its reputation as a top destination for mining investment in Africa.

Namibia is racing towards one of the leading mining markets in Africa, rich in natural resources and with a proven track record in the industry. In 2021, the country was ranked among the top 10 in Africa for investment attractiveness by the Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies. The mining sector plays a significant role in Namibia’s economy, contributing approximately 9.1% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021.
