An exhibition to celebrate the diversity of embroidery and weaving is being held in Senegal’s capital Dakar to help artisans to showcase their products and artifacts. The exhibition is being held in a space dedicated to crafts and fashion launched by Chanel in 2021. Chanel, the luxury brand, unveiled in Senegal a specialty craft-focused collection. Billed as an exhibition to showcase creativity, the exhibition, and the workshops to be held along with it, are expected to attract several artisans and art connoisseurs.
Organizers expect that the exhibition would bring in artists from all walks of life and especially some based in Dakar, who are involved in ancestral crafts, around the hand, around weaving, and embroidery.

The exhibition will have a section on indigo dye, and a focus on Casamance, a region in Senegal’s south, which is the cradle of the mandjak woven loincloth tradition. Exhibition hosted by the Institut fondamental d’Afrique noire (IFAN), would last until March 31. There will also be a series of workshops, discussions, and debates on crafts throughout the exhibition.
