New offshore oil discovery in Equatorial Guinea

The government sources of Equatorial Guinea have announced that the US company, Noble Energy has made a new discovery in Block 1 offshore Equatorial Guinea. Making the announcement, Gabriel Obiang Lima, minister of hydrocarbons and mines, of Equatorial Guinea said that it is expected that the production of oil by the US company will commence by October this year. The Minister added that the discovery was very timely for the country and the government which is keen to develop the country’s resources to build a better economy by way of job creation and value addition. He was of the view that the hydrocarbon resources of Equitorial Guinea were underexplored.

The Production tests from the well have revealed-yielded flow rates of 371 barrels per day of condensate and 36 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, or approximately 6,371 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Noble Energy is the operator of Aseng with a 40 percent interest withGlencore, Gunvor and Atlas Petroleum as partners. As per the Ministry sources, The Aseng 6P well was drilled to a depth of more than 4,000 meters which has five sub sea wells connected to floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
