Judd Devermont, senior director for African affairs at the National Security Council stated that it is high time that Africa got its place in international organisations and initiatives. Africa’s voice should be heard on issues concerning the global economy, democracy and governance, climate change, health and security, he added. The Summit is expected to witness the participation of about 50 African leaders for December 13-15 Summit.
Biden had supported the expansion of the United Nations Security Council, including representation of Africa, at the UN meeting in September. The US position of supporting Africa is in contrast to the stand taken by China and Russia, that see the expansion of the UN security council as a threat to their veto power.
