France seems to be the preferred investment destination for Moroccan investors. During the first half of 2022, Moroccan investment in France stood at $523.6 million from Moroccan investors.

France remains the top investment destination for Moroccans for the second consecutive year. In 2021, according to Morocco’s Exchange Office, France received MAD 8.4 billion ($785.4) from Moroccan investors. The Netherlands came as second most popular investment destination for Moroccans. During the first half of 2022, the Netherlands received MAD 530 million ($49.5 million) of investment from Moroccan investors, against MAD 57 million ($5.3 million) at the end of 2021. The total foreign Investments abroad by Morocco amounted to MAD 8.6 billion over the first six months of 2022.

In 2020, Cote d’Ivoire was the top destination for Moroccan investment at MAD 7.8 billion ($729 million) followed by Luxembourg at MAD 5.7 billion ($532 million).

The official data showed that the manufacturing sector was the preferred sector accounting for MAD 6.4 billion ($598.4 million) of the total overseas investments. This was followed by the financial and insurance sectors at MAD 1.1 billion ($102.8 million) investment. Third on the list is the information and communication sector, with a total of investments of MAD 336 million ($31.4 million), as per the official statistics.
