WEO recognition for King Faisal Hospital and the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali

  • King Faisal Hospital and the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK ) have been recognised by the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO)  as international centres of training in internal medicine.

 

King Faisal Hospital and the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK ) have been recognised by the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO)  as international centres of training in internal medicine.

With the new recognition, Rwanda’s major teaching hospitals will train specialists in internal medicine in gastroenterology and hepatology. The focus will be on the treatment of stomach and liver diseases. Rwanda’s Ministry of Health started a fellowship programme in gastroenterology and hepatology in May.

A major share of cancer-afflicted patients in Rwanda suffers from Liver and stomach cancers. Dr Daniel Ngamije, the Minister of Health, said  that Rwanda proposes to invest resources to acquire state-of-the-art medical equipment and modern medical infrastructure. The country he said has the vision to become a regional hub in medical services.

Prof Dua Kulwinder, the chair of WEO’s Outreach Committee, who led a delegation to Rwanda from the global endoscopy body complimented the government and stated that they were planning to start working at the Rwanda Military Hospital and that Kigali may get another WEO training centre.
