- The 41st Session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has inducted some select African countries to its new Council.
The 41st Session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has inducted some select African countries to its new Council. The 36-member Council is the governing body of the Organization and is elected for a three-year term. The council decides the strategies on how to ensure the safe, secure, and Sustainable Development of the entire global civil aviation network.
The election process was divided into three parts. The first part included States of chief importance in air transport comprised mostly of developed countries like the US, Japan, etc. The second part comprised States which make the largest contribution to the provision of facilities for international civil air navigation had 12 members, including Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa. The third part covered 14 States ensuring geographic representation. This list included African countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mauritania, and Zimbabwe.
