  • The economic crisis in Cape Verde is becoming severe, forcing  many to seek alternatives abroad. Former colonial power, Portugal, is seen as a viable alternative for people to flock. Recently, one Portuguese transport company held  a recruitment drive  at Cidade da Praia, which attracted a lot many people than expected  

The economic crisis in Cape Verde is becoming severe, forcing many to seek alternatives abroad. Former colonial power, Portugal, is seen as a viable alternative for people to flock. Recently, one Portuguese transport company held a recruitment drive  at Cidade da Praia, which attracted a lot more people than expected.

Rising food prices, persistent lack of rain to feed and the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are still affecting the country forcing many feel  to seek job opportunities abroad.

The former Portuguese colony, known as an important tourist destination was badly affected during the Covid-19 pandemic days. The flow of tourists came to a grinding halt. People involved in  the sector had lost their livelihood. There were no other alternatives for them to work. That is why most of the people, particularly the youngsters, are planning to cross the seas for a better living. Analysts say the trend would continue till the tourism sector bounces back.
