Climate representatives from more than 40 countries are gathered in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital, Kinshasa, to evolve a consensus on issues to be discussed at the COP27 meeting to be held in November in Egypt. In the meantime, the leaders called for a surge in funding to stop global warming and fight its impacts on the continent.
The group felt that some European countries are returning to the use of polluting energy sources they had previously banned in order to overcome the consequences of an energy deficit due to the war in Ukraine while reminding the world community that the continent had contributed least to climate change.

According to the leaders, Africa is responsible for only 4% of greenhouse gas emissions and bears the brunt of 90% of the carbon footprint. Egypt is the host of the summit taking place in November. The country’s representative at the meeting pledged to curb global warming, the priority of the November summit.
