RwandAir is reportedly planning to introduce a special cargo tariff for businesses that want to export their products under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA ) agreement. Speaking about the potential for expansion of trade within the continent, Zephanie Niyonkuru, Deputy CEO of Rwanda Development Board, pointed out the opportunities for trade in goods as well as in services. He urged the private sector players in Rwanda to tap markets beyond the immediate neighborhood. He stated that western African countries such as Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, Chad, and Benin offered good business opportunities.
The pilot phase of trading under the AfCFTA was launched in July this year. According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Rwanda, so far only one Rwandan company has started exporting coffee to Ghana though more are expected to join.
