Namibian President Hage Geingob, said to a media agency that the world had experienced three types of African leaders. The first type of leaders were extraordinary people who told Africans to take up arms and fight, like Sékou Touré, Agostinho Neto, and others.
The second wave of leaders more or less followed the cold war dictum and was exposed to the uncertainties and confusion that unfolded during that time. Happily, the third wave of African leaders is asserting the constitutional path and believing in limiting mandates to the constitution. At the same time, there are some leaders who want to change the constitution of their country to remain in power. Yet, they want elections, democratic elections.

Hage Geingob is of the opinion that presidential terms be limited. If the head of state is elected directly by the people, he or she does not have really anyone to answer. That is not the case if one is elected by the parliament.
