Coordination teams of resistance committees and other democratic forces in greater Khartoum have decided to collaborate and work together to build a democratic Sudan and reverse the October 2021 military coup. The decision was disclosed through a joint statement issued by the nine coordination teams from the cities of Khartoum, Omdurman, and Khartoum North. The statement explained that the move was in response to demands for a broad national front that can establish a coordinating framework and drive a peaceful struggle. The decision was widely welcomed by political and professional groups.
In order to reverse the military coup, the resistance committees will jointly evolve a working formula for joint coordination, through transparent and clear dialogue between the resistance committees and all political, professional, and revolutionary forces.
However, this was contested by the coordinating teams of the resistance committees in southern Khartoum and those of El Jereif East Khartoum. They stated that the initiative would bypass the provisions of the Charter for the Establishment of the People’s Authority (CEPA), issued by the Khartoum Resistance Committees in February.
Meanwhile, the UN Special Representative for Sudan and head of the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), called for cooperation among all Sudanese forces to restore peace and avert any more economic and security crisis in the country.
