Burkina Faso has built its first pharmaceutical production plant, which primarily focuses on the production of generic drugs. The plant was recently visited by Prime Minister Albert Ouédraogo.
The factory is built on 1.5 hectares in the commune of Komsilga, on the outskirts of the capital Ouagadougou. The unit will produce the most required medicines.
The plant is certified by an independent Spanish organization. To begin with, it will start producing paracetamol 500 mg, phloroglucinol, an antispasmodic, as well as a kit of oral rehydration salts and zinc. The production capacity will meet the local needs. The list of molecules to be produced will grow, especially with the production of malaria drugs.
