Environmental organisations are up against the auction of oil blocks in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Organizations including Greenpeace Africa, said that they were facing threats because of their opposition to the auction of oil blocks in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The other signatories to the petition include the Rainforest Foundation and the Network for the Conservation and Rehabilitation of Forest Ecosystems (CREF).
The government called for tenders for 30 oil and gas blocks. The environmentalists say they continue to face direct threats, forcing them to discontinue with the agitation. The activists demand that the government adopt a more tolerant approach and hear their points of view dispassionately.

In July, the DRC government launched tenders for the exploitation of 27 oil and 3 gas blocks, promising to ensure that environmental standards are respected. The activists point out that in 2021, 227 land and environmental defenders were murdered in just one year, which was unknown in the history of any country. Agitators openly expressed their apprehension about their safety being a part of the agitation.
