The Ugandan government has decided to lift restrictions on the entry of Iranian medicine and medical equipment into Uganda. There has been a spurt in the dialogue to expand bilateral ties and exchange of delegations between the two countries.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari, led an official delegation to Kampala to explore ways to expand bilateral cooperation. The delegation met and discussed the potential for collaborations with Uganda’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambadde and Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Frank Tumwebaze.
Among other things, the meeting also discussed holding a joint commission meeting, expansion of trade exchanges, investment in coffee, herd breeding, oil, small industries and agricultural products as well as the establishment of a permanent fairground for Iran-made products in Uganda. Both sides agreed on the expeditious implementation of cooperation agreements, and exchange of political and economic delegations to boost bilateral ties.
The deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy also called on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
Iran’s veterinary research delegation was also in Uganda to provide animal vaccines, biotechnology, nanotechnology, agricultural products, supply of chemical materials, as well as IT services.
