Djibouti-Ethiopia SGR to boost trade by cutting down logistical bottlenecks

   The CEO revealed that the railway company aims to cut down the overall supply chain constraints by developing a world-class system of transportation for products such as fruits and vegetables, cold and chilled meat, and live animals for the benefit of millions of farmers.

Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railways S.C is expected to boost Ethiopia’s exports to Djibouti by reducing logistical bottlenecks.

A delegation led by, CEO of Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railways S.C Abdi Zenebe, visited Djibouti recently to discuss how to address the logistical issues and make it more attractive than the conventional ways of transporting Ethiopian export products to Djibouti and beyond. The railway company proposes to focus on schemes like offering affordable prices to attract more clients.

The CEO revealed that the railway company aims to cut down the overall supply chain constraints by developing a world-class system of transportation for products such as fruits and vegetables, cold and chilled meat, and live animals for the benefit of millions of farmers. The railway company has offered to expedite the transport of live animals to Djibouti’s Doralleh Multipurpose port to be finally sent to the Middle East and the Gulf. Both the countries propose to sign an MOU on Livestock to facilitate this.

It was also decided to sign an agreement to hold the first Ethio-Djibouti Railway Promotion Fair in October to connect with investors, exporters, and importers and maximize revenues of the railway company and boost trade between the two countries.
