British courts earlier this month gave the go-ahead for the deportation of Rwandan immigrants. However, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) stepped in at the last minute with an interim ruling and blocked the departure of the flights removing asylum seekers to Rwanda.

Reacting to the move, the UK government has said that it plans to introduce a Bill allowing it to override certain European Court of Human Rights decisions. The UK exited the European Union last year after a 2016 Brexit vote  the court is not part of the bloc.

After Brexit, the UK government pledged to tighten the country’s borders and halt immigration. But the many immigrants crossed the channel from northern France. The attempted crossings as per reports from the French Interior Ministry rose by 68% in the first half of 2022.The UK-France relations got further strained after Brexit as the UK  repeatedly blamed the French authorities for not stopping the crossings.
