German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s first visit to Africa after taking office clearly conveys that Germany is looking for allies in the neighbouring continent of Africa. Senegal and Niger sought further support from Germany in security and development.
With the aim to keep Europe’s neighbourhood stable,Scholz announced that German troops will remain in Niger to support its fight against jihadists.The European training mission has been present there since 2018.Niger’s democratically elected government of President Mohamed Bazoum was also promised German help to build their education, healthcare and agriculture sectors.

In Senegal, Scholz signed agreements with President Macky Sall, to expand a solar energy farm in the West African country, and exploration of new gas fields for export to Europe in order to diversify its sources.President Sall invited the attention of the German Chancellor to the rising grain prices that could lead to political instability. President Macky Sall also used the opportunity to press for G20 membership for Africa.
Addressing the press In South Africa, Scholz expressed satisfaction about his trip to all the three countries and concluded that all the three heads of States from Africa showed keenness to collaborate.
