  • Senegalese President Macky Sall has announced his plan to visit Moscow and Kyiv in the coming weeks in his capacity as chairman of the African Union. The objective of the visit is to try to de-escalate the conflict through dialogue and peace talks between the two sides.

Africa has come into the center of US political diplomacy in the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. With a view to counter Russian influence in Africa, it has issued a law to monitor Russian military operations, investments, oligarchs, and illicit financial flows. According to political analysts, Africa has shot into prominence partly because most of the African countries chose to stay neutral on UN resolutions on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which they say is the reason for the legislation.

Meanwhile, Senegalese President Macky Sall has announced his plan to visit Moscow and Kyiv in the coming weeks in his capacity as chairman of the African Union. The objective of the visit is to try to de-escalate the conflict through dialogue and peace talks between the two sides. Clarifying the AU stand at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Sall said that the African position is to strive for de-escalation and ceasefire through dialogue.
