A new cable car is set to be operational by July 2022 in Agadir’s municipal corporation in Morocco. Authorities are testing the trial run of the cable car, which is billed as a major addition to boosting the tourism sector in the kingdom.
The cable car will link the Tildi bridge to the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella through a 6-minute ride. The project can have a considerable impact on the tourism sector of the kingdom.
The US$ 20 million (MAD200 million) projects will be implemented along with the recently restored kasbah. The project is on track and is currently in the testing phase. The cable car is made by the Austrian construction firm Doppelmayr. The cable car project is an integral part of the international camping project “Sous Camp” launched in 2019. The “Dania Land” amusement park is another part of the project that can strengthen the tourism sector in the country. The project was suspended in 2016 due to high seismic risks in the construction area. In March 2020, an alternative location to host the project was allotted. Equipped with D-line technology that requires simple and quick maintenance, the car consists of 30 cabins. The second car will have 18 cabins. Together, the cars can transport up to 1,000 people per hour. The cable car is part of the Agadir Urban Development Program 2020-2024 which seeks to make Agadir a major economic hub.
